Seedling #06-WA

M Ext. fr. Dor. dip. 21", 3.5", 2 branches, 12 buds. Near white self, yellow-green throat. (Hemerocallis 'Gentle Shepherd' x H. 'Icehouse Effect') Seedling #06-WA. Fertile both ways.

The mug shot above shows this interesting seedling at its best. It occasionally blooms with pure white sterile anthers. In this form the seemingly pure white luminescence of this neatly tailored small flower is unparalleled. Objectively, the flower color appears whiter than its benchmark pod parent because it has more substance. A comparison photo between #06-WA and H. 'Gentle Shepherd' (left) is shown below.

#06-WA has a nice refined flower on a scape that is in good proportion to its foliage. Foliage appears clean and free of disease -- far superior to its famous pod parent. However scape production and bud count may be inadequate. Rebloom has never occurred here in Maryland. Further observation will be required before I will consider registering this based on the simple distinction of whiteness and clean form.

The DaylilyNut Farm has never had rust. It is state inspected, and is located about 25 miles west of Baltimore, MD. In 2006 the garden was moved to a cold-pocket valley, on the boundary between USDA climate zones 5 and 6 (coldest winter night is about -10F).
