Seedling #05-2

EE re., Ext., no fr., Dor., dip., 30", 4.5", 4 branches, 23 buds. Cool Lavender Pink, cream white midrib and edge, darker eye, yellow-green throat. Hemerocallis 'Icehouse Effect' x H. 'Penguin Promenade' Seedling #05-2. Fertile both ways.

This seedling blooms very, very early with a distinctive color and pattern for so early in the season. It reliably reblooms in mid-season, although the quantity of rebloom scapes is limited to one or two scapes per clump here in Maryland. One of the most outstanding features of this seedling is the abundant bud count on the scapes (see photos below). The plant is exceedingly vigorous, with rich green healthy foliage -- not unexpected for a great-grandchild of the species H. Dumortierii. The bud count is such that bloom is continuous from EE through ML season. But of course my real attraction to this seedling is it's cool coloration -- very devoid of yellow and with only a hint of melon -- quite an accomplishment for a species great-grandkid!

The DaylilyNut Farm has never had rust. It is state inspected, and is located about 25 miles west of Baltimore, MD. In 2006 the garden was moved to a cold-pocket valley, on the boundary between USDA climate zones 5 and 6 (coldest winter night is about -10F).
